Police have the power to immediately impound your vehicle in a variety of circumstances such as:
- Drug and/or alcohol-impaired driving;
- Prohibited, suspended or unlicenced drivers;
- Excessive Speeding;
- Stunt drivers and street racers;
- Improperly seated motorcyclists.
If your vehicle is impounded, you will be issued a Notice of Vehicle Impoundment by the police roadside and your vehicle will be towed immediately. The length of the impoundment depends on the reason the vehicle was impounded.
If the registered owner of the vehicle was not the driver at the time of the incident, they may be able to retrieve their car before the impoundment period is over.
